Emma Hickson

Available Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Emma uses an integrative approach for her clients but has a special interest in Existential Therapy which has its foundations in Phenomenology. Here the aim is to understand the client through inquiry into their experiences without labelling, with an emphasis on meaning, purpose and looking at the core values which make up the person. Emma believes that people exist in the presence of others and that we cannot tackle life’s problems without first looking at our relationships. She is a supportive therapist who works alongside her clients as they navigate their emotions and provides collaborative insights into potential blocks in their lives; this is made possible by creating a secure and safe space in which they can tell their story.

Emma has many years working as a nurse and is currently a general practice nurse in southwest London. She has worked with those with long-term conditions and palliative care and understands the effects stress has on physical health and the impact of disease on mental health. She works together with her clients to improve their overall health and well-being. Emma believes people focus too much on the physical aspects of their health, often neglecting that it is deeply and intrinsically linked to their mental and spiritual well-being.

Emma is a BACP registered trainee Existential Psychotherapist and is also registered with the NMC. Emma is currently working towards her Professional Doctorate in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling at The New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling which is accredited by Middlesex University.
