What Is Counselling?

Counselling takes place when a counsellor sees a client in a private and confidential setting to explore a difficulty the client is having, distress they may be experiencing, their dissatisfaction with life or lack of direction and purpose.

Counselling is a way of enabling choice or change or reducing confusion. It does not involve giving advice or directing a client to take a particular course of action. Counsellors do not judge their clients in any way. By listening attentively and patiently, the counsellor can begin to perceive the difficulties from the client’s point of view and help them see things more clearly, possibly from a different perspective.

In the counselling sessions, the client can explore various aspects of their life and feelings, discussing them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Bottled-up emotions such as anger, anxiety,  grief and embarrassment can become very intense, and counselling offers an opportunity to explore them to make them easier to understand. The counsellor will encourage the expression of feelings and, as a result of their training, will be able to accept and reflect on the client’s problems.

Would you be ready to take the first step to connect with someone at the Body and Mind Centre? Our goal is to help you feel comfortable, understood, and heard. Let’s take the journey together and work towards your goals.

Tier 1

Anxiety – Cultural Issues – Depression – Emotional Difficulties – Family Issues – Health Anxiety – Low Self-Esteem – Personality Disorders – Relationships – Sexual Difference – Social Anxiety – Stress – Trauma

We aim to give you the tools and resources to identify what is preventing you from living a happier and healthier life and be able to navigate the difficulties you face at an affordable fee. Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly to discuss your needs; we will try to place you with a counsellor who is the right fit for you. If not, you can also book sessions through the booking system on our home page.

Tier 2

Private Counselling

Our aim at the Body and Mind Centre is to offer the highest quality professional counselling and psychotherapy service for anyone needing help with any mental health or personal development issues they are facing.

We offer a contemporary, stylish and secure environment for clients to meet a therapist, learn more deeply about their thoughts and emotions, and gain life skills and strategies.

With ethics as a priority, we prioritise putting our client’s needs first, including a qualified team with many years of experience with all types of mental health issues. We believe in offering the local community a safe space where people from all backgrounds can access the specialist care they require.

All therapists at the Body and Mind Centre are self-employed and not employed by the Body and Mind Centre. All therapists have suitable qualifications and hold their own insurance. Please take care of any issues directly with the therapist concerned. Your contact form will come through to reception, and we will contact your desired therapist. Please include their name in your message.

Step 1

Meet Our Team

Browse our counselling directory. Look at our therapist’s photos, bio and website to see if they match up with the sort of therapist you’re looking for. Finding a therapist can be a challenging task; I mean, what do you ask? Budget and Availability are essential, but there may be many reasons you choose the person to work with. If you’re unsure, please call or drop us an email, and we would be happy to recommend the best fit for you.

Step 3

Contact Us

Send us a message through the contact form on the website or call us directly. We can discuss the best options for you. Bookings can be made directly with the therapist you have been connected with or through the Body and Mind Centre. We employ a 48-hour cancellation policy so once payment is made if the appointment is cancelled or attempted to be rearranged or not attended this payment is non-refundable.

Step 2

Make the Booking

If you’ve seen a therapist that you like or not, please use the contact form to send us an enquiry so we can help you begin your journey. Please include your name, email address, phone number, and a message about when you would like to have your first session. We recommend you commit to weekly sessions with your therapist. Someone at the Body and Mind Centre will be back in contact within 24 hours with more information.

Step 4

Therapy Begins Here

Please arrive at the centre at the time of your appointment. We have a small waiting area, but it can only accommodate people arriving 10 minutes before their session. We want you to feel comfortable and happy with your therapist and the centre. Please take this initial session as an opportunity to decide if it is right for you. The day and time of the session will be blocked out for you weekly on an open-ended basis so please confirm that you will be continuing your journey with the Body and Mind Centre.

Group Therapy with Adam

Group psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach designed to understand and treat problems in groups, where the presence of others strengthens and enriches the human experience, what we call ‘the value of each other’. Adam has experience in facilitating group therapy and has the expertise necessary to guide you through it.

There is no model candidate for group therapy. Adam’s groups are mixed gender and age, ethnicity and sexuality. People who join the groups come with a range of issues, often concerning family, relationships, work, social concerns, anxiety, loss, bereavement, depression. It will be possible to explore what a group has to offer you in the assessment sessions you would be offered before joining.

We offer once-weekly mixed sex meetings for 90 minutes at a regular time over a minimum of 40 weeks per year online via Zoom. The groups meet in the evenings to facilitate attendance around typical office hours. The maximum number of participants is seven people plus Adam.
It’s not uncommon to approach this kind of therapy with some fear that you’re not getting the same value as you might by meeting one-to-one. But group therapy is perfectly tailored to the challenges of the modern world.

By listening to and advising one another, group therapy participants find practical solutions from other people’s experiences, relief at knowing their feelings are shared and a sense of hope in seeing others who have already had some success. The act of sharing prepares us for the reciprocal nature of daily life and nurtures the skills we need to form meaningful relationships in a world where this is increasingly difficult.

Fee: £120 per month to be paid by standing order
