Mary Jones

My name is Mary. I have worked as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner for the NHS since 2012, working with clients who have been experiencing low mood and anxiety. I am trained in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques and I am an accredited practitioner with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). I’m currently training as a counsellor so I can help more people work on past issues and not solely on the “here and now”.

I offer a warm, safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space in which to share whatever is on your mind. I am client-led, which means that whatever you wish to get out of therapy I will honour that, so if you wish to be heard or want to offload something that has upset you, we will focus our sessions on this. We can look at the past or if you wish to be more proactive and wish to set goals or change certain thoughts or behaviours then I can adopt a more CBT approach, whatever you feel is best for you. Life can throw us various challenges and I believe that talking can help us make sense of these difficult times.

I would say my specialist areas of knowledge include cultural issues, particularly within South Asian communities that include issues such as being disowned, not belonging, and dynamics of being with someone from a different religion/caste and my other area of specialism is understanding motherhood in all its stages (pregnancy, giving birth, looking after children, work/life balance), but I’m happy to work with a whole variety of difficulties.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile and do get in touch if you feel I’m the right counsellor for you.
